Argus Model 21 - C4 - C44 Camera Attributes Survey

The Argus Collectors Group is conducting a survey to identify the attributes of the Argus Model 21 (Markfinder), C4/C4R and C44/C44R cameras. The purpose of the survey is to document changes in features of the camera family over their production life. The results will be posted on the ACG web site.

Directions: Have your camera handy, then proceed by answering each question, either filling in the blank space below the question (like question 1), or clicking on the dot to the left of the correct answer to select it. When you are done, click the 'Submit' button at the bottom of the form to send us the information.

If any of the features of your camera don't match the choices provided, please describe them in the 'comments' section at the bottom of this page.

1. Serial Number

THIS FIELD IS REQUIRED!! Our survey database is indexed by the serial number, so it is the most important information you will provide for your camera.

The serial number is inside the camera or stamped on the bottom of the back door. Here are some pictures of where you should find the serial number:

3. Film guide flap

Does the camera have a folding metal flap over the film takeup spool?

4. Does winding film cock shutter?

Does winding the film turn the sprockets & cock the shutter even if there is no film in it?

5. Takeup Spool

What is the film takeup spool made of:

	Aluminum (silver colored)
	Black Metal
	Black Plastic

6. Lens Mount Screws

Inside the camera, around the shutter, can you see:

	The ends of 2 machine screws
	2 slotted screw heads
	no visible screws around shutter

7. Back latch

Is the latch on the bottom of the camera:

	a toggle with a screw in the middle
	a flat slotted latch in a circle
	a flat slotted latch in a notched circle

8. Back cover trim

Is the leatherette on the back of the camera:

	3 pieces with a circle in the center
	one solid piece

9. Viewfinder eyepiece

Is the viewfinder eyepiece:

	Round
	Rectangular

10. Camera top housing

Is top housing of the camera:

	Silver
	Black

11. Flash sync switch

Is the flash sync switch on the top housing:

	on the top with choices 'M' and 'F'
	on the rear with choices 'M' and 'F'
	on the rear with choices 'M' and 'X'

12. Film advance

Is the film advance:

	A knob with coarse fluting
	A knob with fine fluting
	A crown-shaped knob

14. Rangefinder focus wheel

On the top front of the camera to the left of the viewfinder window there may be a rangefinder focus wheel. Does it have:

	A focus wheel with a scale with black numbers between 3 and 50, and red and yellow triangles around '15'
	A focus wheel with a scale with just all black numbers between 3 and 100
